On the Case
This story has not been edited nor proofread for a reason. While it might seem a bit unprofessional to not have the story edited, the reasoning is that the story is written as it is meant to be. The people in this story speak as they are meant to, which would probably drive an editor nuts, especially with the way Jerry talks. I just feel that if this story was edited it would no longer be the story I wrote. I am not an English major and therefore a book with perfect English and grammar would not be my book.
All characters are completely fiction and any likeness is complete coincidence.
My name is Bill Collins. I worked for several years as a detective solving cold cases. A lot of the stories were surprising, and most just showed a lack of care by the law enforcers. We didn’t always work cold cases, but mostly. We really just worked whatever was given to us. It was a family business started by my father-in-law, Jared Collins and headed by my wife, Jan Collins and myself. Of course, there were several others around, but they mainly worked behind the scenes. Being in a small town meant that a lot of the cases would be related, which honestly made the job a lot easier. We had a jailhouse not far from the office which was there specifically for people we thought might know something about another case. I’m not going to tell of all the cases I have worked, no. That would take years to tell and I’m not sure how much longer I have. But I was always told that sharing my stories could help others in the future, so I want to share them while I have the chance.
